do not forget doorhanger - pure genius

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Here is an invention that I think is pure genius and an absolute necessity, a "do not forget doorhanger". You write stuff you want to remember and hang it on the door. Then when you need to get out of that room, you have that long list hanging on your door.

Now what should I not forget:

Call the contractor to install the new kitchen
fix the electricity
wire house for network
install wifi access points
meet friends for coffee and breakfast
watch the new DVDs I got a week ago
fix the various water leaks
burn a few CDs for the car
go to work to catch up on my email backlog
plan work for next week

learn to relax during the weekend

oofff, that list is getting real long, maybe I should start with the last item first and see how far I go from there.

you can buy the doorhanger from here.

Red Cross or Red Crescent or Red Diamond

A Red Cross or Red crescent on ambulances represent medical staff, equipment and rescue services. In the Muslim world, the red crescent sign is used. In the Christian world the red cross is used. In secular places, I don't know what is used.

To unify the sign, a whole bunch of people sat together in Geneva and agreed to adopt the red crystal symbol. If you use the red crystal symbol, then you can put your own sign inside the with area, obviously the red crescent for the Muslims, a red cross for the Christians and the star of David for the Jews, and leave it empty if you have no preference.

personally, I think a red heart would have been better, but that is just my opinion.

The article describing the agreement is here.

What the Fog?!?

I was taking my usual night jog and as I got out of the house I noticed that my area was covered with fog. It is not the first time Kuwait gets foggy but it is always surprising. You would expect fog at the top of the swiss Alps or in London but Kuwait's has gone foggy too. Here are some pictures for all of you you sitting comfortably at home and not seeing the night fog. The pictures are foggy but that is obviously the point.

Coffee Kick Starts Your Brain and Scientists prove it

Scientists from the Medical University at Innsbruck, Austria, conducted research on a group of people and the effect it has on their brains by submitting them to MRIs (MRI is that scary looking machnie that you slide in and your brain is scanned from all sides) and memory tests. The scientists determined that coffee results in improved memory and makes the brain areas that involve attention, concentration, planning and monitoring more effective.

That is more proof for me that coffee is good for you. Here is a picture of my coffee paraphernalia.

Les Miserables - The cleaning people of Kuwait

You know those poor cleaning people in Kuwait that serve tea and coffee at major institutions, clean up the garbage in the streets, and get paid 20 KD monthly wages and sometimes not even that much? Whereas their sponsor gets paid 80KD to 90 KD per person for renting those people out for their services.

There where different complaints by these poor underpaid people that they where not even paid their salary so the goverment mandated that all the low paid workers get bank accounts and get paid through those accounts so it can properly monitor who is paying salaries or not. Problem solved?

Well maybe but some crooked sponsors still wanted to screw these workers out of their wages so at the beggining of each month you will find the sponsor's representatives standing in front of an ATM machine with a stack of 60 or more ATM cards wthidrawing for each worker the salary he just deposited for them. My friend saw this several times in Hawalli and promised to get me pictures which I hope to post here.

Wait a second, all these bank ATMs have hidden cameras in them also, the banks can report these people also, or maybe not.

What are your needs?

Ok, everyone I am back from my vacation and back to blogging again.

Have you ever asked yourself what are your needs? I don't mean the latest flash sports car but what are your needs as a person, as a being, as someone alive.

Do you know what your needs are and what are your priorities and what motivates you to do more for yourself and your surroundings? Ask no more, Abraham Maslow did all the research and came up with Maslow's hierarchy of needs. He summarized these needs into a pyramid fo needs. Basically, Maslow said you look for your physiological needs first meaning the need to eat, breath and drink. If the physiological needs are not met, all other needs become insignificant.

The next need is the need to be safe. Safety such as laws, rules, a proper home, job security, good salary, etc.

Once safety is met social needs take over like belonging to a community, having friends and loved ones, children, relatives. If you are lacking socially you get anxious and lonely.

Once you are fulfilled socially, you look for esteem. Maslow noted two versions of esteem needs, a lower one and a higher one. The lower one is the need for the respect of others, the need for status, fame, glory, recognition, attention, reputation, appreciation, dignity, even dominance. The higher form involves the need for self-respect, including such feelings as confidence, competence, achievement, mastery, independence, and freedom.

Self actualization is at the top of the pyramid and not many people actually reach it. Self actualization is is the instinctual need of a human to make the most of their unique abilities. You might have a talent and can actually realize that talent by writing a successful book if you are a writer, or inventing a popular gadget if you are have a talent for that.

Which part of the pyramid have you reached?
