I think this is an excellent idea, we should do the same in Kuwait. Our kids in Kuwait are very technology aware. They know all the ins and outs of their mobiles, understand how to set up an Internet connection and are Playstation game masters. Giving them a laptop will add to their technical skills. It is much better having light laptop bags to take to school instead of the 20 kg backpacks they haul around and end up with bent spines by the time they graduate. All their educational materials will be online or distributed as CD ROMs that they can load onto their laptops.
I also want to be very bold and allow laptops in exams with wireless Internet connections. That will help challenge teachers to teach kids how to understand, think and be creative instead of measuring their ability to memorize and recite endless pages of information that they will forget as soon as they finish their finals.
Yeah, that's a great idea..I didn't come into contact with a computer until I was in high school (and i lived/studied in the US)...my daughter in pre-K had 3 computers in her classroom....i think that on the long run it would be cheaper to give each kid a laptop than to printing books.

I am 100 percent in. I love the idea of not having to carry books to school and internet during exams. How cool is that?

vie: I agree, proffesionaly a lot of people stopped using paper and it is all emails and powerpoint, so it will really help the kids.
ReplyDeleteDR: It could be started by a private school here and then the Goverment will take notice and try to catch up. You never know.
Phoenix: I don't want to be the Minister of Education,he has one of the toughest jobs in the world trying to deal with all the antique staff around him, but I would not mind opening a private school and having laptops and Internet access as my policy.

ReplyDeleteDR: Giving out laptops to college students is of course very good, but kids are like sponges and they easily absorb any information instinctively, so if you arm them with laptops, they can handle any technology very easily in the future.
