Huge Kites and Monster Trucks
While driving in Kuwait, I came across some gigantic kites flying in the sky:

>

Then later on, on the fifth ring road, I found a convoy of monster trucks, I don't know what the occasion was, but it was cool to see.

I love Kuwait.

Bluetooth Eavesdropping
Now that everyone in Kuwait is rushing to get a bluetooth headset so that they can drive and talk on their mobile while driving, here is a little hack that allows you to listen in on people talking on their mobile when using bluetooth headsets.
So be careful, don't reveal any dark sinister secrets when you talk on your bluetooth.
PS
to be fair, some Linux know how is needed, a little bit of IP background and a some knowledge of Antennas, so maybe not everyone will try that hack.

Two strikes you are out
According to Gulf Daily News:
Kuwait to deport expats for second traffic offence
KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait is to get tough with expatriates who fail to respect the rules of the road and will even deport repeat offenders.
"The interior minister (Sheikh Jaber Khaled Al Sabah) has ordered that expatriates who jump a red light and have a previous conviction for a traffic offence should be deported," a senior interior ministry official said yesterday. He said his department will implement the order strictly in a bid to promote road safety.
Please don't apply these rules, not because we do not want to lose our guest workers but because the roads are already slow because of overcautious expat drivers driving at the speed of snails and holding the traffic back behind them. Put more cameras instead and make more money from the exorbitant fines.

Saudi Arabia to lift ban on women drivers
Saudi Arabia is to lift its ban on women drivers in an attempt to stem a rising suffragette-style movement in the deeply conservative state.
Government officials have confirmed the landmark decision and plan to issue a decree by the end of the year.
More from the Telegraph here.
The streets of Saudi Arabia have just become much more dangerous, can we expect more driving like this?

Microwave Beams Fries Cars
One beam pulsed in a burst lasting just 50 nanoseconds is enough to disrupt a vehicle's electrical system. The radiation can overload wires or damage or upset the car's central microprocessor.
In tests on four vehicles, the researchers were able to disable cars from 10 to 50 feet away. Full Article Here.
This device is developed by Eureka Aerospace, a California company that specializes in Radio technologies. They plan on selling these devices to the Military and Police force in order to help stop cars entering restricted areas, or disable cars that are being chased by the police.
The technical details can be found here.
I suggest they release this device to the general public like me. I have a problem with stupid drivers cutting me off, or driving like they owned the road. Also, my neighbours feel they can freely park on my pavement whenever they feel like it. The neighbours do not park in a "sorry I had to park here" way, but instead in a blatant, block my door and garage entrance, sort of way.
I did not find any "Place an Order" button on Eureka's site, otherwise I would have bought one and fried all those pesky cars.

Car Wash and Meal
With all the dust storms that we had in last few weeks my car needed a good wash outside and in all the hidden places where dust loves to collect.
I went to Canada Dry Street from the Third Ring Road and took the first right and I drove into Al Roudha car wash and parked my car next to the car wash attendant holding a water blasting hose.

I left the car in his capable hands, and went to sit inside. The waiting place was designed like a Diwaniyah with long chairs, a tea kettle and always on television. As I was about to walk in, I noticed the staircase leading up to an Indian restaurant also part of the car wash. I was feeling hungry so I decided to have something to eat while my car was being restored to its original color.
Right next to the restaurant's entrance was a Menu stuck to on the wall.

It reminded me of French Café's in Paris where the menu is displayed right at the entrance so you can check if they serve what you like, or if the price is agreeable.
I walked in. There was a preparation area for quick sandwich orders.

Right next to it, was the kitchen where the pots of rice dishes where cooking.

I sat down and ordered chicken biryani.

In less than a minute my order was placed in front of me. I especially liked the spicy maraq that came with it and I asked for another serving of maraq. The cook happily obliged.
From the restaurant's window, you could see the car wash below.

I finished my meal, my dishes where quickly whisked away and a glass with one single tea bag placed in front of me. As I was sipping my tea, I was interrupted by the car wash attendant who found me in the restaurant and told me my car was ready to be wiped and I needed to move it to the other side. I invited him to join me for a glass of tea, but he declined. He must have had other cars in line for his expert attention. I finished my tea, went below to the car wash area and watched as my car was patted and buffed until it shone like new. The job was done, the meal was gone. I got in my car and drove out after paying.

Price for car wash - KD 1.500
Price for Biryani - KD0.900
Happy Car / Happy me - priceless.

Bad Weather
Yesterday was the worst weather ever, red dust all morning then monsoon like rain causing torrents of mud.
In bad weather, be sure to drive slowly, safely, buckle up and watch out for the drivers around you.
This poor guy was not very careful.

Kuwait's New License Plate
Cars started appearing in Kuwait's streets with the new License plate. Mark wrote about it here.
There is one license plate only available to the exclusive few, no amount of wasta will help you in getting it. This is the plate I yearn for.

What makes this plate so special? It has Diplomatic Immunity, no police will stop you no matter how fast you drive, no bad parking violations, no worries.

Amazing Stunt
You have all seen this in the movies. A guy on a power bike is chased by a car, a flat bed semi truck is in the way, so the guy slides with his bike under the semi for a quick escape. Well here is one stunt that only Bollywood can deliver:
