Coffee Drinks explained

Lokesh Dhakar on his blog was confused by the different coffee drinks combinations offered at the different coffee places like Starbucks. He did a little research and came up with this excellent illustration that describes all the popular coffee drinks.

This list does not include my drink, which would be a quadruple shot of espresso.

Work at KNPC

I never knew they gave out oil contracts at KNPC to employees, I should be working there.

Mission Impossible - Season 1

I got a DVD of Mission Impossible - the first season. It is copyrighted 1966, so it must have been taken in 1965. The different episodes are all good though a little old fashioned of course it has that unforgettable theme music.

I took some screen grabs of things that interested me, especially the "advanced" spy technology they had before.







The Mission is spoken through a tape deck just like the two above that gets destroyed in white smoke when the tape is fully played. Those mini tape decks where very bulky but it was the best technology on hand at that time. Remember, that was ages before the invention of cassette tapes, or MP3 digital players or mobile video phones concealed in sunglasses.




The Mission Impossible team meets to discuss the mission and set the plan. Check out those suits and slim straight ties.

Sophisticated spy gadgets are also demonstrated at these meetings to be used during the mission.




Check out this arm fitted tape device. Super secret advanced technology back then.

Or this mini handheld camera.





I Liked their cars, look at the lines on this Mercedes limousine which I would love to drive today.





This Cadillac (at least I think it is) is very classy also.





Lady spies wore hats indoor and dresses and used their feminine charm instead of double barreled sawed off shotguns to get the information they needed.





Advanced technology was used in most episodes to fool the enemy like this playback tape deck.

Or inside the spy van parked outside the target's house.





If the technology ever broke down, you took out your soldering iron and fixed it while the clock was ticking.





In conclusion a very entertaining series, even if it is around 40 years old.

Is this the next new thing ?

I had a music channel on the TV and listening to music in the background while I surfed the web. I start to hear a jumpy sort of song, I look at the TV set and I see this crazy frog style video with a gummy bear shaking his chubby bottom.

It took all my self control not to find some heavy object and smash the TV set because of that song. The problem is that the song is like a virus, it is contagious. The hypnotic beat, and the cutesy bear forces you to watch.

Have a look at it, but I am not responsible if you feel the urge to pulverize your monitor.

Classified Ads in Kuwait

I get a lot of crap pamphlets on my house door which I immediately dump in the trash bin near the pavement. If I need anything I would look it up on the Internet, I don't need all those paper flyers. Sometimes I take Al Waseet or 808080 classified ads just to see what people are advertising. If I was to judge the Kuwait populace on these ads, you can see the following:

1. People are selling their cars.
   
2. Renting Lamborghini Gallardo or similar exotic cars for one day.
   
3. Selling their old mobile and buying the latest mobile models.
   
4. buying golden mobile numbers.
   
5. Preparing for weddings by setting up Koshas and fixing up the bride.
   
6. Renting floors in villas.
   
7. killing cockroaches.
   
8. Painting rooms.
   
9. moving furniture around.
   
10. Installing car overhead shades.
    
11. Putting in new aluminium doors and windows.
    
12. Installing new bathrooms.
    
13. Buying new kitchens.
    
14. Buying used cars.
    
15. Getting maids from Ceylon, Vietnam, Ethiopia.
    
16. Installing satellite dishes.
    
17. Eating KFC.
    
18. Buying exercise treadmills.
    
19. Getting Asian massages.
    
20. Getting inflatable outdoor pools for the kids.
    
21. Getting tattooed eyebrows and botox treatment.
    
22. Joining slimming clubs.

Whole Lotta Shakin Going on

Kuwait experienced a little earthquake yesterday. I did not feel it because I was sleeping like a baby. When I woke up, none of the furniture moved, no of the windows cracked, and everythnig was just as I left it yesterday.

Once Upon a Time in Swiztzerland - or - How I discovered a nuclear fall out shelter

A few years ago(OK decades ago), I was hiking with some friends in the Swiss Mountains. The weather was nice, the sun was bright and their was a cool breeze in the air. We stop from time to time to rest. At one of these stops, we placed our knapsacks on the grass and leaned across the steep boulders behind us. Usually mountain boulders are cold and slightly damp. This particular large rock was warm to the touch, dry and felt smooth. We looked closer at the boulder, and it was painted fiber glass that was covering something. We ran our hands on the boulder until we found the edge of the fiber glass sheet. We pulled it slightly from the rock and peeked in. There was a solid concrete wall inside the mountain face and an entrance through a fortified lead vault door. We heard stories before of the Swiss having hidden military airports and army bases deep inside their mountains, but this was the first time we ever saw something like that for real. My guess is it was a Nuclear Fallout Shelter.

Sweet Dreams

You are stuck in the airport waiting for your next flight after a few hours. You want to catch a few zees but there is nowhere to sleep. Some people don't mind sleeping on the floor but you don't know how clean the floor is. The waiting chairs are too small to lie on, except if you are innovative and know how to curl in one like this guy.
